FAQs

How long does the editing process take?

The editing process can vary from 24 hours for small jobs through to more than 20 business days for large, complex documents. Your obligation free quote will detail how long the process will take.

How much will it cost to edit my document?

I pride myself on excellent editing and communication skills, and committment to personalised customer service. As no two jobs are the same pricing varies based on the type of editing required, document length and complexity of the document. Pricing can vary from two cents per word to six cents per word.

What are your qualifications?

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and History, Masters TESOL-TEFL teaching certification, Diploma of Publishing (Professional Book Editing, Proofreading and Publishing), Certificate in Italian, and over 20 years experience. I am also a professional member of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) and the Canberra Society of Editors.

My document is confidential, will it be protected?

Yes. Edge Editing maintains the highest standards of confidentiality and privacy. I have worked on sensitive documents and am happy to discuss my procedures regarding handling sensitive information. Your work will never be shared with an outside party.

Why do I need a proofreader when I have a spell checker on my computer?

When you have been working on a document for some time your eyes can trick you into seeing the word as it is supposed to be – not what is in the document. And while your spell checker will check the basic spelling of your document it won’t tell you weather (whether) your document has two (too) many word usage errors. A professional proofreader will go through your document letter-by-letter and word-by-word to ensure that your writing is error-free and succinct.

How can I pay and do you require a deposit?

I accept bank transfer and PayPal. A 50% deposit is required for all new work. Once you have emailed your document you will receive a return email confirming receipt of the document and the date it will be returned. Attached to the email will be an invoice for the deposit with payment details. Final payment is due within seven days of receiving the final invoice, which is sent with your edited document.

Where is Edge Editing located?

Edge Editing is located in Canberra. However, the majority of my clients are located around Australia and overseas.

Do you edit for ESL students?

Yes. I specialise in working with both ESL students and authors. As a qualified TESOL-TEFL teacher, and having learned a second language, I understand first hand how difficult grammar can be to master in another language. I also know the areas where ESL students frequently get stuck and how to fix them so that the concept you wish to express is yours, just with a little finessing for easier readability.

What format should I use?

Microsoft Word is preferred. However, I can work with PDFs and have worked with Latex. Contact me to discuss the best method for editing a Latex document.
